- Planboo and Omiti Biochar Launch ‘From Bush To Biochar’ Initiative In Namibia
Carbon Herald · 4/4/2024
Our take: Planboo partnered with Omiti Biochar to launch the "From Bush to Biochar" project in Namibia's Erongo region, which aims to convert invasive encroacher bush into biochar to restore savannah rangelands and support local communities. They started the Farm Gai Kaisa project with just 12 people and hope to scale further in the future. Bush encroachment is a major environmental problem in Namibia that reduces grassland, threatens wildlife populations, and decreases agricultural productivity.

- The Biochar Gold Rush: Why Companies Are Scrambling To Lock in Carbon Credits
CarbonCredits.com · 3/6/2025
Our take: Biochar dominated carbon removal in 2024, accounting for 86% of all CDR deliveries, but created severe supply constraints with 62% of 2025's high-quality supply already locked into offtake agreements. The supply-demand imbalance is critical: if just 10% of companies with Science Based Targets commitments began buying carbon removal credits, the market would need to grow 25 times its current size. Supporting this project helps to both secure your biochar credits now while also sending a demand signal that there is a strong spot market for biochar credits in the future.
- Planboo Raised Over $1.1M To Scale Biochar Via MRV Technology
Carbon Herald · 3/25/2024
Our take: Planboo closed a funding round securing over $1.1 million from investors to scale the monitoring and measurement technology for their biochar projects. The company's technology involves a digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) tool that supports remote tracking and auditing of biochar production and application, along with an IoT Greenbox that enables real-time verification of carbon credits from anywhere. The investment highlights investor confidence in Planboo's approach and supports the company’s continued effort to ensure that Farm Gai Kaisa is a high quality project.
