How our carbon offset subscription works
Instead of a one-off guilt purchase, Carbon Shredder turns offsetting into a simple monthly habit. Here's exactly what happens from sign-up to your first retirement certificate.
1. Your plan is sized to you
Run the footprint calculator and we estimate your yearly tonnes CO₂e from a short lifestyle quiz using published emission factors. That number maps to a monthly plan — or you can skip the quiz and just pick a fixed monthly amount on the subscription page, which also shows current plan pricing.
2. Every month, we fund real projects
Your subscription charges monthly via Stripe and buys verified carbon credits from a curated, diversified portfolio — a mix of nature-based and engineered removal projects, screened before they're added. We don't hold credits speculatively; each cycle's funding retires credits against that month's subscribers.
3. You get the receipts
Your dashboard tracks cumulative tonnes funded and the projects behind them, with a retirement certificate for every cycle — including the registry serial numbers of the exact credits retired for you, so you can verify them independently rather than take our word for it.
Reduce first, offset the rest
Offsetting is for the emissions you can't yet cut — not a substitute for cutting them. We'd rather you fly, drive, and eat less carbon-intensively where that's realistic, then fund verified projects for what's left. See are carbon offsets real? for the honest version of that argument, or our methodology for how we screen projects and set pricing.
FAQ
- How is my subscription price set?
- It's based on the footprint from your calculator and the current price of verified credits. You can also just choose a fixed monthly amount — see live plan pricing on the subscription page.
- Where does my money actually go?
- Into a diversified portfolio of screened climate projects — nature-based and engineered removal. Your dashboard shows the project breakdown and retirement records for every cycle.
- Can I cancel?
- Anytime, in one click. You keep the impact already funded for cycles you've paid for.
- Is this different from a one-time offset purchase?
- Same underlying credits and verification, but billed monthly and automatic — so your ongoing footprint stays covered without remembering to buy again. One-time purchases are also available if you'd rather not subscribe.
- How do I prove the offset is real?
- Every cycle's certificate includes the registry serial numbers of the exact credits retired on your behalf, so you (or anyone else) can verify them independently.
