How we estimate a plan
A usage envelope per plan class.Light use at the low end, hard daily use at the high end. The high ends follow the plans' own multipliers: $100 plans get 5× and $200 plans 20× the everyday ceiling.

Per query, the published yardstick.A standard answer uses the maker's own figure where one exists, otherwise 0.16 – 0.6 Whfrom Microsoft's measurements of frontier-scale models. A long reasoning answer uses the same study's 4.32 Wh. Energy becomes CO₂e with the grid range Google reports for its data centres. Every figure and source.
What it leaves out. Image and video generation, and the very large contexts coding agents read on every step, which no published study has measured yet. That is why each pass funds far more than our high estimate.
Common questions
- Why a flat pass instead of charging for my exact usage?
- Two reasons. No AI maker publishes how much a subscriber uses, so an exact figure would be invented. And even heavy use comes to kilograms a month — buying precisely that would cost less than the card fee. A flat pass that funds well beyond a heavy-use estimate is the honest version.
- Does the pass make my AI use carbon neutral?
- No. It funds verified carbon credits that are retired in your name, and you can look up their serial numbers. The emissions from your AI use still happened. What you can truthfully say is how many kilograms of credits you funded.
- What about coding agents like Claude Code or Codex?
- They read very large contexts on every step, and no published study measures the energy of that yet — every per-token figure so far is driven by generated output. Our estimates may understate agent-heavy use, which is part of why each pass funds far more than our high estimate.
- Which pass should I choose?
- Match it to your plan: Everyday for $15–$20 plans like ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Google AI Pro; Power for $100 plans with 5× usage; Max for $200 plans with 20× usage. You can choose a bigger pass for any plan.
